STANDARD LIFE BUILDING
BEYOND STANDARD
Built in 1902 by Alden & Harlow, Pittsburgh's leading local architectural firm of the era, The Standard Life Building was originally an office building that housed the Pittsburgh Bank for Savings. The distinctive style of its rusticated, intricate street-side façade, inspired by Italian Renaissance palazzos as many skyscrapers in American cities were at the time, markedly contrasts the sides of the building not facing the street are just flat brick walls.
In 1921 the lower section was refaced, and the upper stories of the building were since converted into bedroom units for students at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Today, the new Standard Life Building is reborn as the city's most sought-after living quarters for students, faculty, corporate housing and young urban professionals alike.
Located minutes from Pittsburgh's Cultural District, business center, market square and prominent universities, The Standard Life Building offers the ultimate yet affordable Pittsburgh living.
